Club of CHEPSTOW & DISTRICT
FELLOWSHIP DAY AT SYMONDS YAT WEDNESDAY 28 MAY 2025
Members and partners of the Chepstow & District Rotary Club enjoyed a wonderful day of fellowship on Wednesday 28 May, set against the picturesque backdrop of Symonds Yat.
The day began with a scenic 40-minute cruise on the River Wye with Kingfisher Cruises, taking in the stunning scenery and fresh air, offering peaceful views and good company.
This was followed by a delicious lunch at the Saracen’s Head, perfectly situated with stunning views overlooking the river.
After a warm round of farewells, we made our way back to Chepstow through the charming, narrow roads of the Welsh countryside.
It was a memorable day filled with friendship and Rotary spirit – all thanks to our President Elect, Rtn. Guy Wilson, for organising yet another fantastic outing. A true celebration of Rotary fun and fellowship!

Home Ed History Workshops: A Wonderful Day at Caldicot Castle
Earlier this year, the Chepstow & District Rotary Club made a generous donation to the Home Ed group to help disadvantaged children visit Chepstow Museum and Caldicot Castle for a series of five engaging history workshops.
Visit 4: Caldicot Castle – Tuesday, 3rd June
Our fourth visit took place at the beautiful Caldicot Castle. We spent two fascinating hours in the banqueting hall above the entrance, where the children learned all about medieval life.
Did you know that in medieval times, French was spoken in the castle while Welsh was spoken in the surrounding areas—no English at all?
The session included lots of opportunities for the children to ask questions, guess answers, and explore artifacts from centuries ago.
Hands-On Learning Activities
After the history talk, the children got creative with several hands-on activities:
Cooking a food item using vinegar, spices, breadcrumbs, and herbs from the garden
Candle-making with beeswax
Clay crafting, making prints inspired by medieval life
The day concluded with a guided walk around the castle, learning even more about its rich history.
A Day of Fun, Learning & Connection
After the workshop, many families enjoyed a picnic in the castle grounds. The children played team games, formed new friendships, and had a wonderful time together. Meanwhile, parents shared home education experiences, gave advice, and made plans for future meetups.
Thank You
It was a truly lovely day, and we are all so grateful for the opportunity—for the children and for the adults too.
A heartfelt thank you to the Rotary Club of Chepstow & District for making this possible!
