Rotary Great Britain & Ireland Young Artist Competition 2025
Under the Youth Service programme, Rotary Great Britain & Ireland organizes a range of exciting youth competitions, one of which is the Young Artist Competition. This year’s theme is "Water", inspiring students to produce creative and thoughtful works of art centered around this essential and fascinating element.
Three talented candidates from the School and Sixth Form Centre entered the competition. The contest is conducted in three stages: Local (club level), District, and finally, National.
We are thrilled to announce that Eva Cleverley, representing the Chepstow & District Rotary Club, has been selected as the club-level winner. Her outstanding entry has now advanced to the district stage, where it will compete against other exceptional pieces from the region.

“The Hugely Huggable History of the Teddy Bear.”
On 4 March 2024, Chepstow & District Rotary Club welcomed Dr. Gillian White, a distinguished historian and former curator of Warwickshire Museum and the National Trust’s Hardwick Hall, to the Beaufort Hotel. She delivered a fascinating talk to club members and their guests on “The Hugely Huggable History of the Teddy Bear.”
Dr. White explored the history of the teddy bear over the past century, illustrating how this humble toy is linked to some of the most influential figures of the time. She highlighted King Edward VII—often affectionately called "King Teddy"—and President Theodore ("Teddy") Roosevelt of the United States, whose name famously inspired the bear’s moniker.
The origins of the teddy bear trace back to the Steiff factory in Germany. However, there is also a local connection, as bears were produced by Chad Valley in Birmingham. While many toys have come and gone, the teddy bear has remained a cherished companion, capturing the hearts of children and adults alike for over a century.
Rotarians and guests were invited to bring their own teddy bears, and many did so, adding a delightful touch to the evening. Dr. White’s engaging presentation ensured that all in attendance enjoyed an informative and entertaining evening, filled with true Rotary fellowship.
Chepstow & District Rotary Club Continues Support for Ukraine
Since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Chepstow & District Rotary Club has been unwavering in its support for the Ukrainian people. Among its initiatives, the club has partnered with the St. Briavels Ukraine hub, providing essential clothing and household items to those in need.
In early 2024, the Rotary Club extended its assistance to Mike and Mandy Scott, a local couple who are travelling to Ukraine to deliver aid. The club supplied them with several solar mobile banks, vital equipment designed to provide power in regions where energy infrastructure has been severely impacted.
Recognizing the growing need for assistance, the Rotary Club responded by purchasing 16 additional solar mobile units this year. These will further aid efforts to provide reliable power to Ukrainian communities facing ongoing challenges.
Mike and Mandy Scott are set to begin their journey on 7 February, delivering this critical equipment directly to those in need. The Chepstow & District Rotary Club wishes Mike and Mandy a safe and successful trip as they embark on this vital mission to support the people of Ukraine.

Chepstow & District Rotary Club’s Annual Safari Lunch – A Celebration of Fellowship
On 16 March 2025, members of Chepstow & District Rotary Club gathered for their much-anticipated Annual Safari Lunch, a cherished tradition that brings Rotarians together in a spirit of fellowship, fun, and fantastic food.
The event saw members and guests travelling between different homes, enjoying a delicious multi-course dining experience in a unique and sociable format. The afternoon began with fabulous main courses hosted at various homes, where lively conversation and laughter filled the air. After savouring these wonderful meals, participants moved on to different locations for an inspiring selection of superb desserts, each more tempting than the last.
The event was a true celebration of Rotary camaraderie, strengthening friendships and creating lasting memories. With great company, exceptional hospitality, and an abundance of good cheer, the Safari Lunch was a resounding success—enjoyed by all who attended.
Chepstow & District Rotary Club looks forward to many more such gatherings, reinforcing the values of fellowship and community that lie at the heart of Rotary.

Chepstow & District Rotary Club Supports Caldicot Town Girls Football Team
The Caldicot Town Girls Football Team recently reached out for support in securing new team shirts, and in typical fashion, Chepstow & District Rotary Club stepped up to assist.
Thanks to their generous donation, the team now proudly sports a new strip featuring the Rotary Club’s logo.

Though we may not see them in action The club wishes the Caldicot Town Girls every success in their new strip. we look forward to hearing about their success and continued achievements.on the field.
